It is a regular news that I read it few days ago regarding the lack of driver available for Windows Vista. People are crying for the driver to use their own little gadget and thingy for computer accessories. I tought that it is only affect people with peculiar gadget, since common computer accessories like monitor and keyboard should be plenty of adequate driver support.
Only yesterday afternoon I found out that it is not as peculiar. It started when my friend try to install Windows Vista on his machine. And it is found that the dear Vista cannot recognized even the monitor type. Luckily, it still recognized as Normal VGA monitor which has coarse resolution like in the 1990s. The worst thing is it cannot recognized the network adapter, that really a part of your soul to connect to the virtual world, i.e. our dearest internet.
Come to think of it, I've been thinking this is might be a problem with my laptop. Lack of dependable driver to ride the machine. I am also using Windows Vista Business to ride my shining new Sony Vaio SZ43GNB with integrated webcam, wifi and other stuffs. It is apparently the first Sony Vaio that snapped up from Sony Store in KLCC Kuala Lumpur, since I bought it on the first day when Sony sell Vaio with Windows Vista.
It is understandable if the problem exists when installing Windows Vista on old machine, but it cannot be tolerated if the Windows Vista is the OEM operating system for new high-end laptop delivered from Sony.
This is not a big problem, since the Vaio working properly, but not always. Sometimes one of the accessories is not working. For example, the webcam sometimes cannot be recognized by the sytem. It is quite pain in the ash*, especially when I desperately need to make a video contact with my loved ones. Usually I need to disable the webcam device and enable it again, or to re-start the machine.
Recenty, the symptom also become contagious. The network adapter and wifi also sometimes acting up again, and the cure is simple, by restarting. If the machine goes sleeping in hibernation mode, some of the device will not be working afterwards. Then, I need to push that Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart the engine. It is simple, but for lazy people like me that need constant interaction with computer and internet, it will be daunting. Especially when I think about Sony and Microsoft that earn lots of money, and some percentage of them (albeit very small) is come from my pocket.
Hopefully, my pray for the driver is answered. One of my pray already answered, when I have difficulties to access Microsoft Outlook Web Access from the Vista, it is apparently that the Exchange Server need to be patched. And they patched it. And it seems Windows Vista will be full of patches, and more patches will come, for sure. It is not a good image for Microsoft. Even the clothes from fashion designer will be thrown away as rubbish if it is only have one small patch.
